The forest's treasure: pine bark extract

The forest's red gold

Havupuu-uute jauhettuna läheltä, männynkuoriuute

Männynkuoriuutteemme tarina alkaa jo historian hämäristä. Uutteen resepti on siirtynyt kansanparantajalta toiselle, päätyen vihdoin yrityksemme perustajalle Kari Herttualle. Tähän salaiseen reseptiin on kätketty pohjoisten metsien voima.

The only organic and quality-certified pine bark extract on the market

Männyn kuoresta ja nilasta valmistettu Pinena luomumännynkuoriuute on markkinoiden ainoa luomu- ja laatusertifioitu männynkuoriuute.
Se sisältää tutkitusti runsaasti kasvikunnan antioksidantteja, fenolisia yhdisteitä – kuten resveratrolia, katekiineja ja muita flavonoideja.

Pinena organic pine bark extract is 100% Finnish, an extract made with a standardized recipe that has been produced in Siikainen since 1975.

Why pine bark extract?

Pine bark extract is one of the most studied herbal extracts in the world. Pine bark and pine needles naturally contain minerals and trace elements, antioxidants and phenolic compounds such as oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs).

The function of pine bark is to protect the tree from UV radiation, harmful environmental substances, viruses, molds, and bacteria. For this reason, pine bark is rich in phenolic compounds. The phloem layer of the tree, on the other hand, plays a significant role in the transport and storage of nutrients. In addition to the bark that protects the pine, we also use this valuable and nutritious phloem layer.

Over the years, we've actively participated in numerous projects with universities and research institutions, all focused on exploring the active compounds in pine bark and their effects. Thanks to this, we've gained valuable insights into the properties of our own extract.

Researched quality product

We have collaborated in research with the Universities of Helsinki, Turku, and Tampere, as well as Åbo Akademi. Additionally, we've partnered with companies in the field to investigate the properties of pine bark extract. In the research project “Preclinical evaluation of the health effects of natural materials” 2003-2005, it was demonstrated that pine bark extract has many positive properties.

Karin Havupuu-uutejuoma sisältää 380 mg/dl männynkuoren uuteaineita, joista suurin osa on fenolisia yhdisteitä. Oligomeeristen proantosyanidiinien eli OPC-yhdisteiden määrä juomassa on 283 mg/dl. Fenolisten yhdisteiden analyysit tehtiin Turun yliopiston kemian laitoksella professori Kalevi Pihlajan tutkimusryhmässä.

Responsibly produced

The raw material for our pine bark extract comes from the clean forest nature of Northern Satakunta, where pines grow strong and need plenty of protective substances to survive in the harsh Northern conditions. We collect our trees responsibly, and we control the entire production chain from the beginning. Our Pinena pine bark extract is manufactured in our own production facility in Siikainen.

We do not obtain pine bark as a by-product of the sawmill industry, but buy the raw material directly from forest owners, who also collect it for us according to strict standards. We know each of our raw material suppliers and meet them regularly.

The wood we use as raw material is collected from the forest during thinning. As the work is not done with forestry machinery, the forest floor is not damaged and the forest remains vibrant after thinning. Each tree is individually selected for food use and treated as food from the start. In addition to the bark extract, each tree collected is fully utilised as bioenergy. Our harvesting chain is also fully certified organic.

Thanks to our craftsmanship and decades of strengthened expertise, we are able to produce an exceptionally strong and pure finished pine bark extract from our raw material. Our efficient process ensures that no extra trees need to be felled.

Tested and safe

Our product is tested and safe to use. Quality assurance measurements are taken for each production batch. We also regularly test the moisture, ash content, and heavy metal content of each powder batch with chemical analysis. Each sales batch has its own batch analysis, COA = Certificate of Analysis, which specifies the production batch.

No resin resin chemical solvents additives preservatives

Our pine bark extract is made by hot water extraction: it does not contain pitch or resin. We do not use chemical solvents or alcohol in the extraction. No colorings, additives or preservatives are added to our pine bark extract. It is also gluten-free and dairy-free and does not contain common allergens. Studies have shown that pine bark extract does not interfere with the absorption of more common drugs and can be considered safe for the body at the studied concentrations.

Did you know?

Pine has been a significant source of nutrition, especially for northern peoples, and there are historical references to its use as food among, for example, the indigenous peoples of North America.

According to studies, phloem made from the phloem under the bark of pine has been a regular part of the Sami diet. In Finland, pine phloem has been utilized especially during times of scarcity, when phloem has been added to bread flour.
